The name comes from my grandmother "Maria Moraes, the inspiration for all that I do around the hospitality industry and for my approach to food. Cooking was her labor of love and she would make everything from creating her own yucca flour from scratch, the base of pao de queijo, (a Brazilian cheese bread), fresh tomato pasta all traditional Brazilian dishes.
Care, detail, attention and love went into every aspect of the cooking and that's what makes the foundation of Mamo. My foundation is with Brazilian food, but when I moved to New York I expanded my palate and tastebuds from working in the City's highest regarded restaurants (Anassa Taverna - Greek) (Casa Lever - Italian) (Metropolis by Marcus Samuellson - International) (Bar Bastion - French). Hard work and meticulous attention to the needs of customers helped me work my way up from server to bartender and head bartender to bar manager.
Mamo is the culmination of all of this, and I will always strive to deliver the highest- quality service, mixed with homegrown passion to every single Mamo event.
